Paramount Network is premiering their Rest In Power: The Trayvon Martin Story documentary tonight at 10/9c. The documentary is executively produced by Shawn Carter, better known as Jay-Z, and examines the legacy, impact, and life of Trayvon Martin. The documentary follows the most talked about and controversial tragedy that has been the catalysts for worldwide movements like Black Lives Matter, which grew tremendously after the death of Trayvon.
This documentary is a product of the book Rest in Power: The Enduring Life of Trayvon Martin by Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin, the parents of Trayvon. The documentary is unscripted and will be split into six parts, making it a docuseries.
The series looks at the tragedy of Trayvon, an unarmed black teenager, who was killed on his walk home in his Flordia neighborhood by neighbor George Zimmerman. Zimmerman, claiming he shot Martin in self-defense, was acquitted of second-degree murder charges back in 2013. Riots erupted following the case and hearts all over the world have not been whole since.
Rest in Power is said to tell the heart of the story, which the Paramount Network says is more than the narrative about a young man’s life cut short so tragically but it’s a story about race, politics, power, money and the U.S. criminal justice system.
The documentary will also premiere tonight on BET at 10/9c. Watch the trailer below!
