Fill up those wine glasses STAT and stock up for the holidays because a wine shortage may be on the way.... and the problem isn't with the grapes, it's with the packaging!

The two key components of a label are hitting roadblocks: adhesives that have been affected by the Texas freeze and paper stuck at ports. One winemaker noted, "When it comes to alcohol, it's bigger than the design because you can't be compliant with state laws without a label." Because of the supply chain delays you may want to stock up on wine. “We don’t want to over order and have it sit here too long, but we don’t want to run short,” the owner of Capitol Label in Rancho Cordova, Michael Mellon said. He continues, "Adhesives which have been affected by the Texas freeze and you’ve got paper stuck at the ports."

Winemakers are also facing a battle with bottles as shipments are taking a month of two longer to arrive in port, make the cost go up to 50% more! “He said, we are out of all wine bottles,” one winemaker said of a recent conversation with his bottle vendor. “I ordered a container from China of the bottles we need. The first container took a month or two longer to arrive in port and cost me 50% more than I was initially quoted because of price increases.”

All eyes are on the ports right now!
