Michael Slager, the former officer who fatally shot Walter Scott in the back in South Carolina, is expected to plead guilty to use of excessive force today. The charge, which is a felony, carries a punishment of up to life in prison.
As part of a plea deal, the state murder charges and two additional federal charges, will be dismissed.
We hope that Michael's acceptance of responsibility will help the Scott family as they continue to grieve their loss," Slager's attorney, Andy Savage said. "As a sentencing date has not yet been determined, we will refrain from further comment at this time."
