After more than seven years since their last sit-down, Keyshia Cole and Angie Martinez reunited for a heartfelt and honest conversation that showed just how much the R&B star has evolved both as an artist and as a woman. From motherhood to music, and everything in between, this interview wasn’t just a catch-up it was a moment.
Angie, reflecting on their early days, recalled seeing the fire in Keyshia from the jump:
“She’s the truth… she def a little crazy,” Angie laughed.
Keyshia, now a mother of two, admitted she’s far from the impulsive young woman she once was.
“I’m trying not to do anything crazy while I have these boys… I can’t lose them, and they can’t lose me,” she said, showing just how much motherhood has grounded her.
The two bonded over their shared experiences as mothers, even discovering their sons both went through a quiet phase. Keyshia’s oldest son, DJ, now 15, is growing into his own a gamer, not too interested in girls yet, but definitely someone she’s proud of. “He’s got a voice,” she revealed, hinting at talent that may run in the family.
20 Years In, Still Going Strong
Keyshia’s preparing for her 20th anniversary tour, and she’s not holding back on the vision.
“I want it to be a theatrical vibe. I’m fascinated with Broadway… I want to take them through a journey,” she said, eyes lighting up at the thought.
Angie even floated the idea of Keyshia doing theater. Her response?
“Heck yeah, I’d love that.”
In fact, Keyshia already has big Broadway dreams in the works she wants to do a musical about her life titled The Summer of Love.
Private Life, Public Lessons
Known for her vulnerable lyrics and reality TV past, Keyshia has learned to draw some boundaries.
“I don’t regret it, but not again… it don’t have to be public,” she said of her decision to keep future relationships private. She even revealed she’s had private relationships the world never knew about.
When it comes to dating? She’s not in that space and definitely won’t entertain the idea of a celebrity crush. “I’m just not into that right now,” she stated firmly.
But don’t get it twisted Keyshia is still a romantic at heart.
“I do love love,” she admitted, with hope in her voice. “I still want to get married… and have a baby girl.”
Iconic Moments & Heartfelt Memories
Angie asked about the most meaningful moments in her two-decade career, and Keyshia shared a standout memory: Stevie Wonder once told her when they did performance,
“You are what we were to your parent.”
She was floored.
“That’s insane. You know how insane that sounds?”
Keyshia also opened up about her softer side.
“I’m a lover girl for sure. I’m a softie… but when it gets too mushy, I get uncomfortable,” she laughed.
One thing still on her bucket list?
Bora Bora.
She hasn’t made it yet, and blames the long flight. And in classic Keyshia fashion, she admits aliens were the last thing that sent her spiraling down a rabbit hole though she’s still 50/50 on whether or not they’re real.
Life in Miami & Looking Ahead
Now based in Miami, Keyshia’s tapped into a new community and linked up with DJ Khaled’s wife, who she turns to for mom guidance. From school games to parent-teacher conferences, she’s fully leaned into this new chapter.
As for karaoke? Her go-to is her own hit “Love” and who could blame her?
This conversation wasn’t just a reunion — it was a celebration of growth, resilience, and staying rooted in love, no matter what life throws your way. From heartbreak to healing, Keyshia Cole is still here, still evolving, and still the truth.
And this time around, she’s doing it her way.
