Charlamagne Tha God Talks New Book, Dealing With His Anxiety + Kanye West

Charlamagne Tha God is gearing up to release his new book "Shook One: Anxiety Playing Tricks on Me" on October 23rd, stopped by The Angie Martinez show on Mental Health Awareness Day to talk about the book, his battle with anxiety, and of course Kanye West

Even though he is already a New York Times Bestseller just releasing his first book "Black Privilege: Opportunity Comes to Those Who Create It", last year he is dropping a new one. Speaking on dropping the new book he said he didn't want to rush the second book even though people were asking for it and ready to sign a check. The inspiration for "Shook One" came from a moment when he was on Vacation and felt at absolute peace, realizing that he wanted to hold on to that moment saying “I finally want to deal with the anxiety that I was diagnosed with 10 years ago”. Starting to see a therapist last year has really helped him deal with his issues and combat the anxiety, “I don’t look at anxiety as a bad thing, I think you should use that fear as fuel, When I wrote that book it was me just wanting to get things off my chest and talk about things I'm dealing with".

Charlamagne also spoke on his daily routines revealing the various tactics he uses to combat his anxiety. Praying, doing daily affirmations, and taking the time to breathe and do exercise in a room help him combat his issues head-on. Speaking on social media he expressed that he would get FOMO if he wasn't on it but made an interesting comparison when he said “Social media is an abusive relationship, it's like waking up every single day and being in an abusive relationship”, which we can all relate to in some respect.

To promote his new book and elevate the conversation about Mental health, Charlamagne is going to be sitting down with Kanye West for a table about mental health. Expressing that it's not an interview but a conversation about the things that he believes Kanye doesn't get the chance enough to talk about during his Interviews. Talking about how we all used to know this Kanye that was so self-confident and kind of cocky, “But now this guy is showing self-doubt, showing his insecurities”. When asked what he thought about wearing Trump's "MAGA" hat he said, “I was disappointed at first, but We been falling for the Kardashians stuff for 10 years”.
