NBC's Lester Holt Discusses Upcoming Meek Mill Special

On Sunday veteran television journalist Lester Holt will sit down with Meek Mill for his first interview since being released from prison.

So today Angie Martinez spoke to Mr. Holt to discuss the upcoming interview which was inspired by Jay-Z's op-ed in the New York Times headlined, “The Criminal Justice System Stalks Black People Like Meek Mill,” which Mr. Holt says is what stirred his interest in Meek’s case.

Holt touches on many topics such as the opiod crisis that has effected many people across the United States, the moment leading up to Meeks release and how Jay-Z woke up the world to how the probation system affects minorities.

Dateline broadcast called “Dreams and Nightmares: The Meek Mill Story” will air at 7 p.m. Sunday on NBC.
