After her incredible breakthrough success with her debut album Ctrl , the music industry's newest superstar Sza, was nominated for five Grammys during this past January's award show and sadly went home empty-handed. Her fans, and seemingly all of social media, did not take the loss lightly and felt she was "robbed". Sza has been extremely quiet about her feelings since then, but now she is finally breaking her silence about the night that left her feeling "mad as hell."

Chopping it up with GQ, the Top Dawg Entertainment artist explained how she felt following the big night. "I felt a shift. Like, I came a really long-ass way. I didn’t imagine this album doing much anyway. I was so grateful to even have been honored by being nominated and having so many people fuck with my music. I feel like at some point you start to get sucked up into the accolades and you’re like, Oh, this is what this is about, and this is what quantifies my success or me as an artist or a human being."
She continues, "We reached a billion streams on Spotify. The United States fucks with my songs. We’re changing little girls’ lives across the world, and we didn’t even know what we were doing when we started. This is something much bigger than me and a fucking trophy. I’m appreciative of the opportunity. But shit happens."
Sza admits that she took part in no social media after the event, opted out of partying and went to her hotel room and "smoked a bunch of blunts" instead. However, she says that one of her 'homegirls' did show her Alessia Cara's instagram post, which shows the Best New Artist Winner responding to the negative backlash that she received for winning over Sza. Sza says that when she saw the post, she thought "this is really crazy," but she confesses "I feel compelled to express that I really, really fuck with Alessia Cara. She’s beautiful as fuck, her voice is like water, it’s like milk, I think it’s gorgeous." Click here for the full GQ interview and check out Sza's Grammy Performance below.
Last June @SZA dropped her first major-label album 'Ctrl'. It’s all twentysomething angst and insecurities with a heart of neo-soul and pop—part Erykah Badu, a dash of Björk. If the charts didn’t prove SZA was a star, the five Grammy nominations—including Best New Artist—solidified it. Then she was shut out for every single award. After losing, SZA was “mad as hell” and the internet was pissed off on her behalf. So how 2017’s favorite new artist holding up in 2018? Find out at the link in bio. (swipe) (📸 @nathanielgoldberg)
Sza is getting ready to head out on Top Dawg Entertainment's Championship Tour with her label mates Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q, Jay Rock and more this upcoming May. Be sure to add that to your summer festivities!
