Thousands of Flint Residents Face Foreclosure Due To Unpaid Water Bills

According to the Huffington Post, several thousand homeowners in Flint, Michigan are facing foreclosure over unpaid water bills, despite the ongoing water crisis in the city.

Nearly 8,000 homeowners were warned of tax liens, the governments legal claim against one’s personal property and financial assets if one fails to pay a tax debt, which could lead to foreclosure if the bills are not paid. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Many have not used their tap since the crisis began back in 2014, but the city is in desperate need of money, which is what prompted cutoff notices and tax liens warnings.

Although, the city has made strides to clean its water and the lead levels in the city’s water samples meet federal standards, officials have yet to confirm it is actually safe to drink the water.
