Cam'ron has filed a lawsuit against J. Cole for allegedly not properly compensating him for their first collaboration.
According to a report Billboard published on Tuesday, October 28, the rapper-podcaster, born Cameron Giles, accused Jermaine Cole of not following through with his end of the deal for their popular song "Ready '24," which appeared on the Dreamville co-founder's project, Might Delete Later. The two seasoned MC's recorded the track in June 2022. In exchange for the feature, Killa Cam claims Cole agreed to either hop on another song with him or pull up to his hit podcast It Is What It Is. Cam alleges Cole has yet to do either.
In the legal documents, Cam says he asked Cole to jump on two prerecorded tracks in September 2022. In response, Cole said he'd rather link up in person to make the records from scratch. Unfortunately, they never finalized their plans to meet in the studio. Cam didn't reach out to Cole again until July 2023. At the time, he asked Cole to come through to his sports talk show It Is What It Is with Ma$e and Treasure Wilson. Despite staying in contact with Cole leading up to the release of their collaboration and Might Delete Later, Cole continuously told the Harlem native that he was too busy to appear on his show.
Cam'ron also named Universal Music Group as a defendant in the lawsuit. He claims he still hasn't been compensated for his feature verse on "Ready '24." He's asking for up to $500,000 in royalties and profits from the song. As of this report, neither J. Cole nor his legal team have responded to the allegations in the lawsuit.
