Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins is spearheading a new record label full of multifaceted artists who make music inspired by their faith.
The Grammy award-winning producer, rapper and songwriter formally announced the launch of his new label Alienz Alive. According to the imprint's website, Jerkins and his new team of musicians aim to "build community, develop artists, foster dialogue, and encourage storytelling that is honest, pursues truth, and glorifies God." The introductory roster includes five artists: Jon Keith, GAWVI, IMRSQD, Alex Jean, and TJ Carroll. On Friday, June 7, Jerkins introduced his artists with a montage of their latest singles.
“When I first thought about launching a new company, I knew I had to do something that reflected my faith," Jerkins said in a statement. "What's crazy, and people might not know this; I was rapping in church as a kid. I was also featured on Kirk Franklin's Revolution so this is a full circle moment for me because now I'm doing something revolutionary by launching this label."
"Alienz Alive is a collaborative community of creatives that are Christ-centered where artist development is key," he continued. "We encourage our artists to use their gifts to uplift and inspire. Sonically speaking the influences are Hip Hop, R&B, and Indie Rock. As long as it glorifies God and it's dope, all are welcome.”
At the end of May, Jerkins celebrated the debut of his artist's new music. Alex Jean dropped his inspirational single "I Need Faith," and IMRSQD shared his cautionary banger "Don't Do Molly." In addition, Jon Keith delivered his upbeat pop hit "BAGS" while GAWVI shared his first solo track in three years called "Into the Atmostfear." He's also got another track "Doors Down" dropping next week. TJ Carroll also delivered his trap-laced song "I Rather." It's one of several tracks Carroll has released through AA since the beginning of 2023.
After cooking up beats for the likes of Beyoncé and penning songs for icons like Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson, Jerkins' decades of experience writing and producing for the biggest names in music will definitely help these rising artists ascend to the top. He officially created his new label in 2022. Not only is he personally assisting with developing each artist, but the hitmaker is also involved with the label's daily operations.
