61-Year-Old Man Shot in the Face While Sitting in Harlem

A 61-year-old man was shot in the face in Harlem. The incident occurred around 2:05 p.m. near West 154th Street and Frederick Douglass Boulevard.

The victim was rushed to Harlem Hospital in critical condition, in which he remains. Police are searching for a suspect described as a man in all black who fled southbound on Frederick Douglass Boulevard after the shooting.

Authorities are conducting an ongoing investigation, questioning the circumstances of the shooting and whether the victim was targeted.

Witnesses recounted an argument which eventually escalated into a physical altercation before the victim was shot.

“There were three or four guys sitting on a bench and two of them started arguing and fighting,” said a witness, who asked not to be identified. “When [the victim] hit the ground, pow, he shot him in the face.”

The gunman fled the scene on foot, southbound on Frederick Douglass Blvd., causing bystanders to panic and scatter.
