G. Dep, a rapper who used to be signed to Diddy's Bad Boy Records, has been released from prison after spending over a decade behind bars.
On Thursday, April 4, videos of the rapper's release from Fishkill Correctional Facility in New York were posted to his Instagram account. In the clip, you can see the "Special Delivery" rapper reunite with his loved ones as he hugged everyone in the group. Later on, G. Dep and his family celebrated his freedom during a meal at IHOP. The 49-year-old artist was officially granted parole after he spent the past 12 years behind bars after he was convicted of second-degree murder in 2012.
The rapper, born Trevell Coleman, was signed to Bad Boy Records in 1998. He dropped his debut album Child of the Ghetto in 2001. The 20-track album was led by his hits "Let's Get It" and "Special Delivery," the latter of which spawned a remix featuring Ghostface Killah, Keith Murray and the late Craig Mack. A few years after the album was released, Coleman admitted to killing a man named John Henkel in Harlem back in 1993. The artists said he shot Henkel randomly during a failed armed robbery. Police were able to match the information he provided and charged with him with second-degree murder. Coleman pleaded not guilty, but was ultimately convicted in 2012.
Back in December, Coleman was one of several inmates who was granted clemency by Governor Kathy Hochul as part of her office’s annual end-of-year clemency list. According to AllHipHop, Coleman plans to focus on his education after he received his associate's degree in liberal arts during his time in prison. Now that he's free, G. Dep plans on pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business.
