Best Buy Says ‘Bye Bye’ to Physical CD Copies in 2024

According to Variety, Best Buy is ending DVD and Blu-ray Disc sales after the 2023 holiday season!

The decision to terminate the sale of DVD and Blue-ray copies, effective this year, stems from Best Buy’s focus on new tech and changing entertainment consumption habits.

A spokesperson for the electronics retailer stated the move creates space for innovative technology.

"Making this change gives us more space and opportunity to bring customers new and innovative tech for them to explore, discover and enjoy," the spokesperson said.

Streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and others have reshaped how people consume content, impacting the low-demand for physical copies.

This new-year shift reflects the evolving preferences of a generation that grew up without DVDs and cable TV as primary sources of entertainment.

The public's reaction to the inevitable revelation is mixed, with mostly 90s babies and their older peers feeling... a way. More notably, people are reminiscing on their memories linked to music and CD purchases.
