OnlyFans announced its decision to suspend upcoming policy changes restricting sexually explicit material, noting "assurances" it received to allow it to be "a home for all creators" on Wednesday (August 25).
"We have secured assurances necessary to support our diverse creator community and have suspended the planned October 1 policy change," the company said in a tweet. "OnlyFans stands for inclusion and we will continue to provide a home for all creators."
The company also said it planned to send an email to creators soon.
The reversal comes days after OnlyFans, the largest adult-oriented subscription fan pages website, announced its plan to soon begin banning sexually explicit content.
The company, which has more than 130 million users, announced its making changes to “to comply with the requests of our banking partners and payout providers,” according to an official company statement obtained by Variety.com last Thursday (August 19).
The initially company said, effective October 1, 2021, “OnlyFans will prohibit the posting of any content containing sexually explicit conduct,” the company said in a statement. “In order to ensure the long-term sustainability of the platform, and to continue to host an inclusive community of creators and fans, we must evolve our content guidelines,” the statement confirmed.
OnlyFans added that it would allow creators to continue to post content containing nudity amid the policy changes if it "is consistent with out Acceptable Use Policy."
“We will be sharing more details in the coming days and we will actively support and guide our creators through this change in content guidelines,” the company said. “OnlyFans remains committed to the highest levels of safety and content moderation of any social platform. All creators are verified prior to being able to upload any content to OnlyFans, and all uploaded content is checked by automated systems and human moderators.”
The U.K. based company launched OFTV, a free streaming service that features more than 100 OnlyFans creators, spanning fitness, cooking, comedy, health, music and other non-explicit genres, earlier this week.
The new format was soft-launched earlier this year and now features an on-demand content library with more than 800 videos.
OnlyFans was founded in 2016 and has since paid out more than $5 billion to creators worldwide, with the company reportedly keeping 20% of revenue from its 2 million-plus creators, according to its terms via Variety.
The company has been prohibited from being featured on mobile app platforms due to its X-rated content.
