Millions Under Strict Lockdown In China Due To Delta Outbreak

Concerns are growing in China as it tries to contain its largest COVID-19 outbreak since Wuhan.

Millions of people have been confined to their homes in China as the country tries to contain its largest coronavirus outbreak in months with mass testing and travel curbs. The central city of Zhuzhou in Hunan province on Monday ordered more than 1.2 million residents to stay home under strict lockdown for three days as it rolled out a citywide testing and vaccination campaign, according to an official statement. “The situation is still grim and complicated,” the Zhuzhou government said.

A cluster that began in Jiangsu has spread rapidly, driven by the Delta variant. 55 more cases have been confirmed -- including seven new infections in Wuhan -- taking China's total over the last two weeks to 360. Millions are lining up to get tested, while others are confined to their homes as residential compounds are cordoned off.
