First Openly Transgender Miss USA Contestant Makes History

Kataluna Enriquez recently made history as the first openly transgender woman to win the Miss Nevada pageant— meaning she'll also be the first to compete in the Miss USA pageant.

She beat out 23 other contestants to become Miss Nevada. “I am a woman. I am a proud woman.”

Kataluna told Inside Edition’s Jim Moret that the road to winning the competition was not an easy one. But she says she’s received the support she needs from the Miss Nevada organization. Kataluna will be going national later this year; the Miss USA pageant will be held on November 29th.

If Kataluna wins Miss USA later this year, she will become the second openly transgender woman to compete in the Miss Universe pageant after Spain's Angela Ponce did so in 2018.
