Miami Condo Building Collapses - Frantic Search For Survivors On The Way

An overnight partial building collapse has prompted a massive emergency response in Surfside, Florida a town near Miami, Florida.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials said more than 80 units responded to the collapse at the condominium building near 88th Street and Collins Avenue just north of Miami Beach around 2 a.m.

Footage from the scene showed a large section of the 1981 built building collapsed into a pile of rubble. Witnesses say people are currently trapped inside the building’s south tower and can be heard screaming. Crews used ladder trucks to rescue residents from balconies and are working to clear all of the floors.

Surfside's mayor confirmed at least one person was killed in the collapse. A family reunification center has been set up for anyone looking for unaccounted or missing relatives at 9301 Collins Avenue.
