Demand For BTS McDonald's Meals Cause Chaos And Store Shutdowns

There was major chaos at 34 McDonald’s stores in Indonesia over meals inspired by the Korean boy band, BTS.

Demand was so high, the first day of sales ended with Police behind counters + overturned tables and chairs. To avoid crowding, the special was only available through delivery and drive-through windows but that didn’t work. There was a crazy backlog of delivery drivers in stores desperate to fill the 10-piece and fries orders.

“We temporarily closed four of six McDonald’s stores here in Semarang for a couple of days,” Fajar Purwoto, the Indonesian city’s public order agency head, told AFP. “I don’t want Semarang to be in the COVID-19 red zone again.”

After the meal was released, the United States branches saw an increase of sales by 12%, Insider reported. The BTS collaboration meal is on its way to outperform the Travis Scott collaboration meal.

The Indonesian stores ultimately had to shut down for the day, no word on whether or not the BTS fans got their nuggets.
