Yung6ix Talks Creating A New Genre With “TrapFro”

Yung 6ix is one of the most buzzing artists out of Nigeria currently. The young star have already put up millions of views and streams online throughout his career, but his latest endeavor in creating a whole new genre may be his most ambitious yet!

Dropping his “Introduction To Trapfro” almost a year ago in the middle of a global pandemic the young star sought out to merge the afro-beats genre and Hip-Hop together to form something new in the world. Opening up to us a bit about the journey to create a new genre he expressed that it took a lot of time and planning because to take on something of this nature there has to be a certain culture built around it before its creation.

“It took a lot of work, processing, collaborations, it took a lot of growth to when I created it I wanted to understand how to go about it, understanding you can't just create a new type of music there has to be a culture around what you are creating, there need to be certain values that define you as a trapfro artist, for example, if you saw Hip Hop artist or a rockstar you know the difference because there are certain values that define and generate what they do that you can associate with that brand, or character or how they act.

6ix of course has also collaborated with some of the biggest artists in the world, most notably Davido who he explained to us has been a friend of his for some time.

“Davido is one of my coolest friends, and everytime he's in LA we’re always together he's one of my closest friends and we really did a lot of s--- in Africa. If me and Davido in a space you don’t want to be up in that space, he's the kind of person that wants everyone around him to win”
