Today DJ trio Cheat Codes dropped their brand new album "HELLRAISERS PT 1" featuring the likes of Tinashe, Marc E Bassy + more! The Trio which is comprised of KEVI (Kevin Ford / prince$$ rosie), Trevor Dahl, and Matthew Russell stopped by On The Radar today to talk about their new album, linking with Tinashe on “Lean On Me”, their craziest on stage moments + more!
For the longest time, the trio has been wanting to properly put out a full album together. After rising to fame quickly and going on tour for the better part of the past few years they haven't had the time to really sit down and work on a project, that’s until the global pandemic hit last year which they expressed allowed them to sit down and put together a 3 part album, each part with a different vibe and type of sound. Parts 2 and 3 are expected to be out by the end of 2021.
“Definitely been something we wanted to do since day 1 we always been wanted to do an album at the beginning things were just kinda crazy, we were putting out single after single and started touring relatively quickly after starting and really didn’t have much time at home. Even tho doing an album has always been a big goal for us, this last year we set out to do an album, and when this pandemic hit we had more time than ever to get it done and do more sessions to do as many songs as possible and figure out what we want to do. The reason we’re doing this 3 part album instead of just 1 part album is we started making all these songs and we fell in love with all these different styles we were making and we didn’t want to just make one style and be put in a box”
One of the standout and new records on the projects comes in the form of the group's collab with Tinashe. When asked about the record they expressed that they have been fans of Tinashe forever and that all it took was the right record to make their collab possible.
“Well the process of making it has been relatively short, we been wanting to do a song with Tinashe for awhile, we been fans of her for forever and most of the time it was just a matter of finding the right song, you know when you make a song and your like oh this will be perfect for this person I hope they feel the same way, we sent it over to her and she liked it a lot which was a blessing for us, we love her and its super cool. We weren’t able to be in the studio with her when she recorded her vocals but we got together and did some photos and shot the video and all that stuff and we’re excited for everyone to see it”
