North Carolina native Hotboy Shaq is one of the artists you definitely need to keep your eye on in 2021, releasing his “My Time” album back in 2020 under his new name (minus the lil) he made a huge splash in the game thanks to hit records such as “We Outside” alongside Boosie. Stopping by On The Radar the rapper spoke a bit about the project, his friendship with Boosie, as well as dropping the “Lil” from his name.

Previously known as Hotboy Lil Shaq, the NC rapper had been releasing projects for the past four years under that name. While many rappers will keep the lil in their names Shaq expressed that since he’s an adult now it was time to let it go and begin a new era of his career and music.

“I was thinking that because I ain't little no more I’m big Shaq, I feel like Shaquille O'Neal in this, I had to take the Lil out because Im older now, I’m a grown man you feel me. That’s how I look at it”

With an explosive statement under his new name with the album “My Time”, Shaq explained that this past year has been his most successful yet, with the price of his features and shows going up he expressed that it’s only a matter of time till he reaches the level of success that he’s been working towards all this time!

“It was one of those albums where I had a lot going on at the time I was buzzing, my feature price went up, my show price went up everything was going up for me, so I felt like its really My time, and it's my takeoff time and that’s why I called it that”
