Surfer Ben Kelly Dies In Shark Attack

It was a horrific scene at the beach as one of the preeminent figures in the surfing world was killed by a shark.

26-year-old Ben Kelly was surfing off northern California when a great white shark came after him. Kelly suffered a brutal wound on his leg in the attack. Multiple calls were made to 911, and CPR was administered to Kelly, before he ultimately died. Drone footage of the beach, which was closed for sunbathing but open for swimming and surfing, showed great whites nearby.

Kelly, an Orange County native, leaves behind his wife of three years, Katie, who he met at Vanguard University in Costa Mesa. Their close circle of friends and family have surrounded her with love and support and set up a GoFundMe campaign to "support his wife Katie during this tragic time by covering all burial expenses and all of her living expenses for the foreseeable future." They have already raised $96,000 out of the campaign's $300,000 goal.
