Cosmetics Companies Hit With COVID-19 Sales Slump

Can't go outside? Then why bother with doing makeup? That’s what many women seem to be thinking as the cosmetics industry is taking a major hit, with retailers like Sephora seeing a 14% drop in sales since the beginning of the pandemic.

Will this mean that people start to embrace a more “natural look” after lockdown restrictions are lifted? Jackie DeAngelis from Fox Business doesn’t think so - she predicts makeup sales will bounce back once stay-at-home orders are rolled back.

Analysts and investors are unsure how long it may take for customers to return to the beauty counter — and if they’ll keep up their shopping in the meantime. Until further notice, Sephora, Ulta Beauty and Benefit are temporarily shutting stores to slow the spread of the coronavirus.
