The New York Post reports that millions of Americans should be receiving their $1,200 relief stimulus checks today, as the first wave of payouts for citizens impacted by coronavirus has finally begun.
The first group of recipients, estimated to be around 50 million Americans, will receive their money as early as April 9 to April 14, according to an internal IRS plan obtained by the Washington Post.
Those who filed their taxes electronically and had their returns sent via direct deposit will have payments distributed quicker - 8 in 10 Americans signed up for direct deposit payments for their last tax refunds, the outlet reported.
The IRS must print and mail paper checks to Americans who did not sign up to electronically file their taxes, on April 24 about $30 million in paper checks are scheduled to be mailed out.
