China has drawn up new guidelines to reclassify dogs as pets, rather than livestock that can be cooked and eaten đđŸâ€ïžđ¶
The announcement which comes in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak, has been labeled a âgame-changerâ in animal welfare the Humane Society says.
The Chinese Ministry of Agriculture said in a notice:
âAs far as dogs are concerned, along with the progress of human civilization and the public concern and love for animal protection, dogs have been âspecializedâ to become companion animals, and internationally are not considered to be livestock, and they will not be regulated as livestock in China,â
China banned the consumption of wildlife following the COVID-19 outbreak and has promised to make that ban permanent.
