Nurse Wearing Garbage Bag Asks Reporter For His Much Better Protective Gear

CBS reporter David Begnaud was at an intensive care unit in Brooklyn reporting on the coronavirus outbreak, and he was geared up with better personal protective equipment than nurses risking their lives daily.

When he interviewed a nurse who was wearing a garbage bag, she pleaded for his mask and gown and he gave it to her, after it was sanitized. "I'd like a mask like yours and this white suit you have on...this is a garbage bag" she says looking down at her homemade gown while comparing it to the reporter's PPE.

Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and other Democrats are proposing to give doctors, nurses and other essential workers, such as grocery store clerks, up to $25,000 in hazard pay as part of the phase four coronavirus relief bill. The bonus pay which would also go to truck drivers and janitors, would stretch from the start of the public health emergency to the end of the year.
