Americans on lockdown are drinking more, a whole lot more!
US sales of alcoholic beverages have risen 55% in the week ending March 21, according to Nielsen data with Hard alcohol like tequila, vodka and gin at the top of the list. Hard liquor sales are up 75% percent compared to the same period last year while wine and beer sales are up 66%.
In New York, liquor stores are considered essential businesses by Gov. Andrew Cuomo and have remained open during the COVID-19 pandemic.
National online sales are up 243% with alcohol delivery app Drizly seeing an impact on sales the week of March 16–21, up approximately 300% from earlier in the year, reports CNBC.
