The Archdiocese of New York is closing Catholic schools next week and perhaps longer due to coronavirus, officials said Thursday.

New York Catholic schools will be closed effective Monday. The schools will be closed all next week and possibly longer according to The New York Post.

“Informed by expert health officials and the Health and Safety Task Force of the Office of the Superintendent of Schools, this decision was made out of an abundance of caution,” wrote Superintendent of Catholic Schools Mr. Michael J. Deegan.

There are roughly 200 Catholic schools across the five boroughs with an enrollment of roughly 77,000 kids.
