Meek Mill Calls Out Companies For Signing Young Artists To "Slave Deals"

Fast Company Innovation Festival - Day 2

Meek Mill took to Twitter yesterday to express a serious problem about predatory deals between labels and young artists in the music industry.

The Dreamchaser Records co-founder let social media know that these labels are financially taking advantage of young kids from low-income neighborhoods and having them sign their life away for a quick check. There have been many instances of labels owning the intellectual property (masters, publishing) of artists since the test of time. He wants to make this problem a top priority to resolve in 2020 and is making it part of his 2020 New Years Resolutions claiming that he can prove how legally wrong these practices are. He says,

We taking control of that 2020 and exposing the people offering these slave deals! Ima get some lawyers to break down some of these deals y'all offering these kids.

It's great to see an artist of Meek's caliber representing Hip-Hop as a true OG and being culturally aware of what's going on in our industry.
