Genius Sues Google For Unethical, Unfair, and Anticompetitive Behavior

Department Of Justice Expected To Launch New Anti-Trust Investigation Of Google

Genius Media Group who owns Lyrics website, Genius.com has filed a lawsuit against Google Inc. and their partner LyricFind.

Genius has accused Google of copying lyrics from their websites and then publishing them on Google.com via business partner LyricFind. The lawsuit was filed yesterday in New York and Genius have said they're looking for no less than $50 Million between the two companies.

“Defendants Google LLC and LyricFind have been caught red-handed misappropriating content from Genius’s website, which they have exploited—and continue to exploit—for their own financial benefit and to Genius’s financial detriment. This action seeks to halt Defendants’ unethical and unfair anticompetitive practices, as well as to recover damages for violations of Genius’s Terms of Service as a result of defendants’ misappropriation.”

Ben Gross, Genius’s Chief Strategy Officer, told the Wall Street Journal in the summer: “Over the last two years, we’ve shown Google irrefutable evidence again and again that they are displaying lyrics copied from Genius.”
