The Portland Trail Blazers have officially signed 10-time NBA All Star Carmelo Anthony. The veteran small forward will wear number 00 for the Blazers, instead of his usual number 7.
“Carmelo is an established star in this league that will provide a respected presence in our locker room and a skill set at a position of need on the floor,” said Blazers President of Basketball Operations Neil Olshey.
After the good news was announced, Melo took to Instagram to explain why he decided to change his number. It seems the number has a spiritual meaning and he’s looking for a fresh start.
"One should be concentrating on clues that the universe is dropping for them to take up a quick reaction," Melo wrote. "Divine power is seeking my undivided attention. I had to achieve the tranquility of spiritual maturity through the guidance of the Universe. I WILL ALWAYS BE 7️⃣."
Anthony could make his debut on the court as soon as tonight when Portland faces the Pelicans.
