It was only a week and a half ago when Maren Morris, Brandi Carlile, Amanda Shires, and Natalie Hemby announced their new supergroup, The Highwomen, but the supergroup isn't wasting any time. Since breaking the news, the quartet has released two singles — "Redesigning Women" and "Crowded Table" — and announced a debut self-titled album, which is slated for a September 6 release.
They made their live debut at the legendary Newport Folk Festival last weekend, which included "the first gay country song," "If She Ever Leaves Me," and shared the stage with none other than Dolly Parton for a special all-female performance called “♀♀♀♀: The Collaboration,” where they performed the queen of country's iconic hits “Jolene,” “Just Because I’m a Woman,” and “Eagle When She Flies.”
Now, they're making their television debut (we told you they're not wasting any time). On Tuesday night (July 30), Morris, Carlile, Shires and Hemby performed "Redesigning Women" and "Crowded Table" on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon (the latter was a special web performance). Though each woman is a star in her own right, they all stood center stage, unified and even at times holding hands. Instead of showing off their solo voices, they sang in harmony, proving their all in this together.
