2019 is going to be lit! Well, if you're planning on visiting Disneyland in California, that is. It's been announced that the theme park will start serving alcoholic drinks next year and Disney fans are hype. Disney recently confirmed that Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge - a new section of the park based on the film franchise - will have a restaurant called Oga's Cantina, which will be the first public location to serve alcohol at Disneyland.
According to Disney Food Blog, guests will visit Black Spire Outpost in Galaxy's Edge, a village on the planet Batuu, where they'll be able to stop by Oga's Cantina for drinks and entertainment. There is, of course, a detailed backstory for Oga's Cantina because this is Disney we're talking about, after all. As Disney Food Blog reports, "Oga Garra is the alien proprietor of Oga’s Cantina and as Black Spire Outpost is set on a smuggler’s planet, Oga is used to keeping “unruly patrons in check.” In fact, the Cantina has a history of being a safe haven for smugglers and patrons hoping to avoid authorities."
For parents who want to enjoy this immersive experience with their kids: don't worry, there will be non-alcoholic options, as well. All the beverages will feature "exotic ingredients using otherworldly methods, served in unique vessels," according to Disney. There will also be entertainment at the Cantina, including the former StarSpeeder 3000 pilot droid from Star Tours, RX-24, as DJ. Stormtroopers and other "familiar faces" are expected to appear at Oga's Cantina, as well.
Disneyland's sister park, Disney World, has been serving alcohol for some time now. Many visitors enjoy "drinking around the world" in Epcot and are now able to order an alcoholic drink at a few more table service restaurants in the Magic Kingdom. The first restaurant to serve alcohol in the Magic Kingdom was Be Our Guest, the Beauty and the Beast themed eatery, back in 2012. Now, though, Disney has expanded that list to include Plaza Restaurant, the Crystal Palace and the Diamond Horseshoe. Before this, though, the park adhered to a strict alcohol free policy since it opened in 1971, per Walt Disney's vision to create a truly family friendly environment.
Disneyland was the last Disney park to hold on to that policy. Starting in 2019, it will join the rest of the parks across the world in serving alcohol to park-goers. Are you excited to try out Oga's Cantina in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge?
