Lil Dicky has finally returned with new music: a brand new single called "Freaky Friday," featuring Chris Brown, and an amazing celeb-packed music video to go along with it. In fact, the only way to really describe this new song and visual is EPIC. To tease his new track, Lil Dicky tweeted that it is "the best music video ever," and he was not kidding.
"Freaky Friday" is the first new music fans have hard from Lil Dicky since his 2015 debut full-length album Professional Rapper. And in true Lil Dicky fashion, the rapper has put together another creative, fun visual to go along with the track, featuring some very famous friends -- and yes the video is based on the classic film Freaky Friday.
On filming the "Freaky Friday" music video
In the 5 minute and 20 second "Freaky Friday" music video, Lil Dicky and Chris Brown switch bodies, just like the storyline of the movie, and in Lil Dicky's own words "What a wonderful day we have." And in the end, the rapper also switches bodies with Ed Sheeran, DJ Khaled, and Kendall Jenner.
Lil Dicky exclusively told iHeartRadio of filming the star-studded music video, "There's Ed Sheeran, and DJ Khaled, and Kendall Jenner. Honestly, I would say it was stressful, only because it was so important to me. That the whole time I was just thinking, 'Man you got to do this in the best way possible.' Like, I don't necessarily enjoy that feeling, but man do I enjoy watching it now."
No doubt, fans will enjoy watching the new new music video. Lil Dicky adds of shooting the visual and working with Chris Brown, "First off, being around Chris Brown for that long, clearly he is one of the most talented people ever, in the history of humanity. So, just watching him, even being in the studio with him, he literally dances the entire time. And it's like, you just sit there and watch him dance. So just being around that kind of talent was pretty inspiring. Ed's like the biggest star in the world, so it's just all types of talent was greatly inspiring to a guy like me."
Speaking of Chris and his talent, the R&B/hip hop star helped to teach Lil Dicky the choreography in the video's dance sequence. The rapper explained, "He helped me with the choreography. Because there's a choreographed dance in it. It's such a bucket list thing to do. I have a choreographed dance scene with Chris Brown. And he taught me a lot."
On the inspiration behind the "Freaky Friday" music video
The inspiration for "Freaky Friday" and the music video obviously comes from the premise of the classic film Freaky Friday, in which two people switch bodies. And Lil Dicky tells us, if he was to switch bodies with someone, it was going to be Chris Brown. He explains:
"I pride myself in, hopefully, being funny. So, I thought, what's a really funny concept? And I had seen the movie Freaky Friday, obviously it's a childhood classic. And I always thought, wouldn't it be interesting to switch bodies with somebody in music? Like, I've never really seen that happen. So, I kind of just thought, who'd be the most interesting juxtaposition for me? To go in someone's body who I wouldn't normally be in their body, obviously. And Chris Brown ... You know, if I can be in someones body, I definitely want to be able to dance like that and sing that way, and he's obviously gorgeous."
