#HispanicHeritageMonth Artist Spotlight: J Balvin

José Álvaro Osorio Balvín also known as J Balvin was born (May 7th, 1985) in Medellín, Colombia. When Balvin was in high school he moved to the United States to learn English, during his time here the young star lived in both New York and Oklahoma. Over the past decade, the 35-year-old singer has become one of the best-selling Latin artists of all time with many referring to him as the "Prince of Reggaeton" (compared to Daddy Yankee as the King of Reggaeton). He has won four Latin Grammys, Five Latin Billboard Awards, and has been nominated at the Grammys twice! As a trailblazer for the Latin community, Balvin became the FIRST Latino to headline some of the biggest music festivals in the world such as Tomorrowland, Lollapalooza, and of course Coachella.

Since breaking onto the scene in the early 2010s he has released 5 studio albums including his highly acclaimed "Colores" album in which every song was named after a color and the videos for the records reflected the song's color pallet. In 2019 he also teamed up with fellow reggaeton superstar Bad Bunny for their "Oasis" collab album.

Most recently Times Magazine included J Balvin in their "100 Most Influential People of 2020 List" as Balvin continues to expand the Latin music genre and reach new people across the globe with his music.
