FBI Warns That Hackers May be Spying on You Through Your Smart TV

US-IT-FACEBOOK-NEWS-FEED

You may want to consider returning that Smart Tv you just purchased on Black Friday… The FBI has recently issued a warning that these televisions can be utilized by hackers to spy on you.

While features like internet connection, microphones and cameras are all helpful, they also help hackers gain access to your home.

“Beyond the risk that your TV manufacturer and app developers may be listening and watching you, that television can also be a gateway for hackers to come into your home. A bad cyber actor may not be able to access your locked-down computer directly, but it is possible that your unsecured TV can give him or her an easy way in the backdoor through your router,” the FBI wrote.

To avoid these issues make sure to know what features your tv has and how to control them. It is also imperative to check your security settings and change your passwords. Make sure to turn off cameras and microphones to limit the collection of personal information.
