Summer Walker has received criticism from fans recently, wanting her to be more engaging with them at meet and greets. Over the weekend, the artist responded on Instagram with a caption explaining her value of personal space.
Walker posted a selfie with a caption that started off thanking her fans for coming out and purchasing her meet and greet packages and sharing their stories. "I just want to say all the fans who purchase meet & greets I really APPRECIATE y'all taking the extra time to meet me and share your stories," she said. "I tell everyone individually 'thank you,' I spread love, we laugh & I give genuine compliments."
She then took some time to address her fans concerns.
"Now for those who're upset b/c I don't give hugs idk what to tell you... I'm empath, and that transference of energy from that many people each day would literally KILL me," she said before continuing. "T here's a lot of people out here faking the funk with a smile on their face like they got it together but inside your actually suffering from some sort of traumatic experience, a loss, depressed, fearful, envious or whatever the case may be BUT I CAN FEEL IT. So I ask you please respect my space in those moments."
These comments come after some fans expressed concern over their personal meet and greet experience. One fan took to Instagram to post of her photo with Walker with a caption that read, "Not only did she move the meet and greet last minute to a after the show, the meet and greet itself was literally five seconds," the fan said. "We were informed to have our phones out, ready with flash, and not sit too close or touch her. She barely spoke to anyone, every couple of people she'd say 'Hi."
Controversy surrounding this whole experience might not help Walker's decision to continue in the industry. Earlier this year, she took to Instagram to state she was "too real" for the music business and has never acted differently since gaining fame and attention.
As for now, Walker will continue to finish out her tour and have time to take time for herself to relax soon.
