Barack Obama Breaks Silence About Deadly Las Vegas Shooting

On Sunday (Oct.1) night, the Route 91 Harvest Festival turned deadly when a gunman shot into the concert's audience, killing over 50 people and injuring over 500 more. This domestic act of terrorism is now the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.

According to reports, the terrorist was 64-year-old Stephen Paddock. From his Mandalay Bay Hotel room window, he fired shots at thousands in the crowd who were watching Jason Aldean wrap up the three-day festival.

"Paddock, 64, was found dead in his room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas when a police SWAT team broke down the door," CNN reports. "Sheriff Joseph Lombardo said authorities believe Paddock killed himself."

Paddock lived in Mesquite, Nevada, which is about an hour outside of Las Vegas. "What's unique for us is the gunman, the shooter, and the person with him, we in the Mesquite Police Department have not had any contact with these people in the past," Mesquite police spokesman Quinn Averett said. "We haven't had any traffic stops, any law enforcement contact, no arrests or nothing."

Since hearing of this terrible news, many people -- celebs and non-celebs -- have been reacting to the shooting. One of the first tweets we saw that expressed condolences to the shooting's victims was from former President Barack Obama. "Michelle & I are praying for the victims in Las Vegas. Our thoughts are with their families & everyone enduring another senseless tragedy," his tweet read. His wife, Michelle Obama retweeted the message.
