Big Gay Ice Cream’s Original East Village Location Has Closed For Good

The Big Gay Ice Cream Shop's original 7th street location will not reopen after being closed since last March when the city first shut down due to the pandemic.

Local news site EV Grieve, reported the news after their readers noticed a 'For Rent' sign in the window of the shop. The confirmation soon came when the co-founder Doug Quint, informed them of a permanent closure. Although he didn't provide further explanation, it is presumed the pandemic had an effect on the shop.

Starting as a truck in 2009, Big Gay Ice Cream shop opened its first location on 7th street between Avenue A and First Avenue. It has been named best ice cream parlor and best food truck in the country, best known for their creative, fun toppings and flavors!

Sister locations for the shop in the West Village and on the Upper West Side did eventually reopen in the city, unlike this original location.
