We are living in a time where hanging on to the past is actually profitable. I being a 90’s baby already know that companies are playing off of the blissfulness of nostalgia in order to get me buying what they’re selling...and it is working.
A classic tale of a young kid in West Philadelphia, born and raised to be exact, is coming to this decade of the social media expressionist.
Filmmaker Morgan Cooper is the mastermind behind the newest rendition of a story we have all grown to know. Cooper composed a cinematic approach to the beloved The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air sitcom, now retitled in the trailer as solely Bel-Air.
The independently produced visual of Will’s story is told in an alternative fashion. It’s dark, Will’s life doesn’t just go from basketball court fights to living lavishly and comedically making Uncle Phil mad. Cooper masterfully takes us through a sequence of moments that feel entirely brand new, all while reminding us each step of the way that we already know how it ends.
The trailer was so perspective shifting and thought provoking that it has gotten the attention of Will Smith himself. Will published a video on his vlog channel where he sat down with Cooper to discuss the trailer together. They both hit all the questions fans wanted to know and they even gave insight on things we may never have thought to ask.
"The dramatic version of these ideas means that you can use existing storylines. But, it's not going to seem like you're redoing an episode because the storyline is going to be brand new from the dramatic perspective." Smith says.
The trailer has already surpassed 3.5 million views. Check out the trailer and Will’s reaction to Cooper’s creativity down below!
