In her sit-down with Angie Martinez, rap star BIA opened up about finally releasing her long-awaited debut album, her mindset amid the noise of the industry, and how she’s grown into the woman and artist she always wanted to be.
“It’s Time The People Are Ready”
BIA says fans have been calling for something different, and she’s ready to deliver. “People are calling for new music,” she told Angie. “I’m rethought the music I made for 10/10 my sound’s evolved, but the album will remain true to me.” Despite the recent headlines surrounding her and Cardi B, BIA makes it clear that her debut will not feed into the drama. “It’s just noise to distract,” she says calmly. “I’m grateful there’s new eyes. I’m talented, I believe in my art. I’m glad for people to look, because my work speaks for itself.”
“Weird Is Below the Frequency for Me”
While the internet speculates about rap beefs, BIA insists she’s focused on the bigger picture. “My label loves and knows me as a person. They believe in my music they want me here,” she says, hinting that she won’t let controversy be used as a marketing tool. “I rap better. I have nothing to prove. Weird is below the frequency for me.”
Her album, she says proudly, is “beautiful.” There are no disses on the project. “I love women. I made this project for my fans especially the girls who get it,” BIA told Angie.
“I’ve Never Had a Negative Interaction with Another Girl That Raps”
When asked if the rap beefs make fans choose sides, BIA admitted it can happen. “It does make fans pick,” she said. But when asked if she’d ever squash things, she replied, “I could care less.” She also firmly denied ever speaking negatively about Cardi B’s children. “They’re general words,” she explained. “I’ve never had another negative interaction with another girl that raps.”
The Next Chapter: Family, Business, and Latin Music
Beyond rap, BIA shared her long-term vision inspired in part by Sylvia Rhone, the iconic label executive she credits with teaching her key lessons about longevity and ownership. “I think about the next five years a lot,” BIA said. “Family, entrepreneurship I love nails and makeup, so I could see myself opening a business. And I want to do a full Latin album.”
BIA’s evolution is clear she’s grounded, focused, and ready for the next phase of her artistry. As she put it simply: “My album is beautiful. I’m proud of it.”
