Freddy Martinez can’t cut hair right now due to the businesses being closed, but some of his customers have been showing up at the California barber's shop anyway to pay for future services.
Mr. Martinez says he has been living in his Glendale shop for weeks to keep his distance from his daughter at home, who has a medical condition and is being cared for by his wife. The arrangement has allowed Mr. Martinez to be present at the barber shop for his clients who have been showing up to pay him for future services.
Some regular customers say that they want to help their barber who sometimes serves as a spiritual advisor to them and are paying for three or four haircuts in advance. Mr. Martinez says he much rather be paid in advanced than just be given a handout.
