Mellody Hobson & George Lucas Look To Save Jet & Ebony Archives!

Mellody Hobson and George Lucas are hoping to save some monumental historic memories in African American and Black communities from being lost forever.

Mellody, a businesswoman and former chairperson of DreamWorks Animations, and Star Wars filmmaker George have filed a court motion in order to seek full control over Ebony and Jet magazines' archives. This all happening just a week after the magazines' publishing company filed for bankruptcy. The assets of the company were then handed over to a court appointed trustee after the filings.

The archives are said to host a collection of footage that help tell the stories of black lives past, present, and future. The tapes accumulate about 70 years of black life documented. Black Enterprise reports that the archives include some original photos of Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, Maya Angelou, and Muhammad Ali.

If Mellody and George cannot preserve these documents, we may never have another chance to embrace the legacies left behind in them. Let’s root for our history being respected and preserved accordingly!
