We know that rappers Jay Z and Meek Mill both have been advocates for changing the way justice is served in America. Meek took to John Jay College in Manhattan this morning to make a huge announcement regarding the strides to implement a better justice system in our country.
The good news is that a new coalition has been created called Reform Alliance! It is committing to raising 50 million dollars with the goal to change the laws for those suffering in the never ending cycle of parole, amongst other things in the social justice realm.
Meek led the announcement and stated:
"Every time I started to further my life with the music industry, traveling the world and traveling worldwide - and actually making money to be able to provide for my family and take them out of that ruthless environment - every year there was something that brought me back to ground zero, and it was probation. I always wondered what happened to the people that was in situations worse than mine,"
He also states that the current criminal justice system keeps young black people hostage and aims to keep them incarcerated instead of trying to rehabilitate them.
The founding partners of the Reform Alliance include the Philadelphia 76ers owner Michael Rubin, New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, and rapper Jay-Z.
It is important that we take stands to give those a voice who do not have one of their own. We can not make changes alone and it is up to us to save us! Let me know your views on the current state of our justice system. Let me know in what ways we can change things for the better!
