Apes took over theaters last night. Dawn of the Planet of Apes, directed by Matt Reeves hit the big screen at 10p.m last night and racked up $4.1 million in early preview screenings. The movie stars Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman, Keri Russell, Toby Kebbell and Kodi Smit-McPhee.
This is comes as a surprise because its predecessor, Rise of the Planet of the Apes only racked in $1.4 million when it opened three summers ago. The movie did fairly well and went on to gross $54.8 million its opening weekend. Over all, it grossed $177 million domestic and another $305 million internationally.
Now that the standers are set high, hopefully the action packed movie can keep up the momentum and surpass its pervious sells.
