Harlem native, Azealia Banks has finally been released from her contract with Universal records. Back in January she went public about her frustration with her record label tweeting:


“I’m literally begging to be dropped from Universal. Universal needs to just hand me over to another label who knows what to do with me. I’m tired of having to consult a group of old white guys about my black girl craft. they don’t even know what they’re listening for or to. Can someone at Sony buy me off of Universal please?? i’m really in hell here."

She let the world know of her new found freedom by taking to Twitter and sharing the news with her 379,000 followers. She compared her record deal with UMG to being a slave in the famous movie "The Color Purple." The 23-year-old rapper tweeted:
