We're celebrating Black History Month by shouting out some of our favorite sons and daughters throughout the month of February.

Gaining Weight On Vacations Could Have Long Term Impacts

Many people think gaining a few pounds on their vacations is okay because they'll lose it once they're back to the grind. But, corporate dietitian Courtney McCormick says these few pounds can easily spiral out of control.  A 2016 University of Georgia study found the average American gains about three-quarters of a pound while on vacation.

When participants were weighed six weeks after the study, the three-quarters of a pound didn't go away.  This "creeping obesity" is described as  gaining a few pounds each year that you think will be temporary weight gain, but it ends up sticking permanently.  Experts recommend watching alcohol intake, staying active and bringing your own snacks to avoid unwanted weight gain.
