Black Georgia Lawmaker Crowd Surfs While Unmasked At Trump Rally

Georgia state Rep. Vernon Jones (D) crowd surfed over maskless attendees at a Donald Trump rally in Macon, Georgia last Friday (October 16). The Black lawmaker represents Georgia's 91st District, which includes Atlanta's northern suburbs. Jones confirmed on Twitter he did crowd surf at the rally. "Yes, I surfed that crowd! To the haters - stay mad! You’ll be even more mad come November 3rd!," he posted.

Someone replied to his tweet with a video, showing the unmasked Democrat being hoisted up by attendees. He was also taking arm pats and giving a high five in the video. Jones has also criticized guidelines set by the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention during the coronavirus pandemic, which has disproportionately affected communities of color.

Herman Cain, a Black former GOP presidential candidate and Donald Trump supporter, died in July due to coronavirus complications after he attended a Trump rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma; he was not wearing a face mask, as well.

When Jones endorsed President Trump back in April, he resigned from his seat following backlash. He went back to his position a day later. “Yesterday, I announced my intentions to resign from my office. But shortly thereafter, the outpour of support I received was too great for me to ignore,” he tweeted on . “I will not allow the Democrats to bully me into submission. I will not let them win. I will NOT resign. #MAGA.”
