Talib Kweli is addressing critics of the protests that have rocked Ferguson, Missouri. After a spirited debate with CNN's Don Lemon Thursday about the mispronunciation of his name and the time he had to speak his peace on live television, the rapper finally shared his thoughts that the focus should be on shooting victim Mike Brown.
Kweli dismissed notions that communities do not respond in the same way to what he called "black-on-black" crime. He said there are many organizations working tirelessly to address violence in their communities and just because people don't see them, or they choose to ignore them, doesn't mean they don't exist.
Michael Brown was gunned down by a police officer on the streets of Ferguson, Missouri on August 9th. The teenager was unarmed at the time of the shooting sparking protests among angry residents. A funeral for Brown will be held next Monday.
