(Lauren Evans) Anyone hoping to travel to or from Brooklyn via the R train is going to have a rough year starting on Friday, when service will be largely crippled in the borough thanks to damage wrought by Hurricane Sandy.

But from darkness, comes light: The Rockaway ferry service, which began shuttling commuters stranded in the Rockaways to Manhattan in November, will on Monday begin making an additional stop at the Brooklyn Army Terminal at 58th Street in Sunset Park.

Ferries will leave from Beach 108th Street and Beach Channel Drive in the Rockaways, and stop at 58th Street landing in Brooklyn, Pier 11 in Lower Manhattan and East 34th Street in Midtown. One-way fares will be $2. According to a press release from Council Speaker Christine Quinn, passengers can expect to arrive at Wall Street from Sunset Park in just 15 minutes.
